Jessica is a simple woman. She wants to draw cards, play all the aspect cards and abuse her Boosted stats. Nothing groundbreaking that I'm telling you here but a new card, Energy Shield, has made a new strategy to achieve this really easy.
Setup:
The setup for this deck is relatively light. We want both copies of Finesse in play, Clarity of Purpose and Deft Focus. Prioritized in that order.
Energy Shield is the new card that makes this deck sing. People have seen Sidekick Spider-Woman using Captain Marvel to draw multiple cards, this is very similar except we give her Sky Cycle and Energy Shield as her main upgrades. Energy Shield lets you spend resources to prevent damage to the attached character.
I do like to get Finesse in play before Cap as that way we can ensure we keep her around with the energy Shield combo. I like to use Call for Backup to get her in play.
He's not as essential but to have another target for Energy Shield, we can run Northstar with it as well.
Gameplay:
The combo for her looks like this, have Cap attack/thwart which draws a card. Use Finesse or Clarity to turn that resource into an resource paying for Energy Shield which cancels the consequential damage. Cap becomes invincible with this strategy. I know some would say it feels bad to "lose" a resource but you're essentially paying for that card draw while eliminating the consequential damage.
Outfitting her with Sky Cycle lets her activate twice per turn and with Inspired she becomes a 3/3 ally who takes no consequential if we spend the resources from both Finesse and another resource. Command Team can get her a 3rd activation as well.
Reinforced Suit gives Cap + 2 hit points and this is really nice to allow her to take a damage of consequential on turns where she's activated multiple times allowing you to spend that resource on something else.
For those keeping track we can get a combination of 9 damage/threat removal with potentially NO consequential! And we can do this every single turn.
Northstar with Energy Shield provides the ability to cancel a boost card by dealing a damage to himself. Energy Shield can cancel that damage allowing him to do this for you every turn. This keeps Jessica from taking too much damage and limits the need for defending.
You'll notice Strength In Numbers is in here and it is another big part of the strategy. Several of our allies don't provide big stats so we can use SiN on them to draw even more cards. Northstar is essentially a permanent SiN target as the main reason he's here is to mitigate damage taken. Kaluu, Brother Voodoo, Maria Hill and Clea are also good targets for it. You can even use it on Cap then ready her with Sky Cycle to activate.
A normal turn without SiN can be 7 cards in hand after Cap activates twice while still having access to Clarity and Deft Focus as resource generators. This allows us to play her events boosting her stats and deal out crazy amounts of damage.
Using Pheromones to stun/confuse allows for even larger hand size turns as we can flip to AE and the next turn use Jessica Drew's Apartment to find an aspect card. Then flip to hero and hit SiN on Cap as well as Nothstar which jumps us to 8 cards. Use Sky Cycle and Command team on Cap to activate twice putting us at 10 cards.
It's extremely easy to get Spider-Woman up to 4 on her stats with all of the card draw, resource generation and low cost aspect cards.
And to further abuse this we have a TON of readies in here.
Self-Propelled Glide is already in her kit and can be paid for by Deft.
What Doesn't Kill Me heals for 2 and readies. The caveat is needing a resource. Enter Finesse or Clarity.
Leading Blow is awesome here as most turns she's going to be up to 4 meaning that there are only a few encounter cards in the game that will cause a whiff. Even at 3, she's going to hit more often than not.
The allies are here to boost card draw, find events, boost SpW stats and be batteries for SiN.
White Tiger provides solid card draw and stats.
Clea is great for SiN and can take a hit for you if need be. The beauty is she shuffles back in allowing us to have another aspect card for SpW stats.
Brother Voo and Kaluu both search for events which is what over half the deck is comprised of. This is very rarely going to miss.
Maria Hill provides a card draw and solid thwart for you.
Other Considerations:
Sidekick and side by side were in here initially but it wasn't working well with the rest of the deck.
Quincarrier provides a resource but I was trying to cut back on basics and clarity does the same thing.
Leo Fitz was a final cut. He allowed you to search for Energy Shield if you didn't already have Cap outfitted with it. However the need to flip to AE and limited targets made me cut it.
Overall, this deck has been a ton of fun and extremely strong (no surprise with SpW) in the testing i have done. The amount of card draw allows for a ton of cards to be played in a single turn which is always fun. I'd love to hear any feedback or experiences with the deck!
