I realize my last attempt at this Drax infinite loop deck was a lot more "Crazy Charlie" than I hoped it'd be. Here is a more streamlined, straight-forward explanation. It also has an easier to hit loop thanks to Journeyman2's idea. Will you get to 1000 damage? Probably not, but 600 damage is just fine. Once the villain is all dead (not just mostly dead), it's all just icing on the loop cake.
Note: This deck isn't made for solo. It works best at 3 to 4 players.
The Journeyman2 Loop:
3 cards - "Fight Me, Coward!" aka FMC, Parry, and Payback. You play Fight Me, Coward to ready, then Parry to block (4 damage from Dauntless, Drax's Other Knife, Electrostatic Armor, and Flow Like Water), Payback, then attack with Drax (7 damage). All set up that's an 18 damage combo. Just keep doing that combo until the villain runs out of encounter cards.
So, how do you get from a 40 card deck to a 3 card deck loop? Let's go through it.
Allies, Supports, Upgrades and PSS:
-
Each turn your goal is to put out as many allies, supports, upgrades and player side schemes as you can. My turn one mulligan priorities are DWI Theet Mastery, Symbiote Suit, Specialized Training and Helicarrier.
-
Don't be afraid to flip down to alter ego. Angel's Aerie, The Night Nurse, Render Medical Aid and Mantis are all there to heal you. You'll get those Vengeance counter back quickly.
-
If you get out Mantis, Starhawk, The Night Nurse or Energy Barrier before the end of round 3, you can use them up. You'll get them back before round 5, 6 or 7, and your friends will appreciate what they can all do. The rest of the non-events should go into play and stay there.
-
Because of card draw from Taunt and FMC, putting out all the non-event cards will only take 4 to 7 turns. Use them every time they come out unless it will kill you. If you have Too Stubborn to Die out, you can die. It'll this your deck by 1 since TSTD leaves play once it's used.
-
Make sure to leave Mantis and Gamora with 2 HP or more for your final round. They need to be used during the loop, and you don't want them to die to consequential damage.
-
By end of setup, Drax will have a max of 27 to 29 HP, 7 attack, and a retaliate of 2 once all set-up cards are out. You're now at 14 cards in your deck.
Loop Time:
-
You'll start your final turn with a 14 card deck size and a 6 card hand size (because the villain attacked you the previous round + Symbiote Suit).
-
Here a quick way to get from 14 cards to 3 with a fresh deck: Draw 3 cards from Gamora + Drax's attack + Combat Specialist. Leaving 5 cards in the deck. Now play Taunt + Helicarrier + Parry + Payback + Unflappable to draw the last 5 cards, and to put 3 cards total in the discard pile. Once you have a 3 card deck, the loop can start.
-
Since the chances of you getting a fresh deck on your final turn are low, I'm going to give you a number of card thinning combos to get down to a 3 card deck.
-
Gamora's basic + Drax's attack + Combat Specialist = 3 less cards in the deck, and 3 more in your hand.
-
Taunt + Helicarrier + Parry + Unflappable = 3 less cards in the deck, 2 in the discard pile and 5 new cards in your hand.
-
FMC + Parry + Unflappable = 2 less cards in the deck, 2 in the discard pile, and 4 more in your hand.
-
FMC or Taunt + another card to pay for Taunt = 2 less cards in the deck, 1 or 2 in the discard pile, and 2 more cards in your hand. Only do these combo once or twice because it will eventually kill Drax.
-
If the cards you need are at the bottom of your deck (Like FMC), you can always use C.I.T.T. or Leading Blow to draw those cards.
-
Use any or all of these combinations to work your way down to a 3 card deck. You might have to go from 14 to 5 to 3 or something similar, but the combinations will be there.
-
Note: Once you practice this loop enough, you can do it without getting down to 14 cards. The key is to hold upgrades in your hand while you play Taunt and FMC.
-
Tips for doing even more damage/easier set-up:
-
Bring Star-Lord or another Leadership Guardian. Have them have the Black Panther ally hold Blaze of Glory until Drax's big turn. It can be played out of turn.
-
Bring Storm with her +1 attack Thunderstorm.
-
Bring a confuse lock Justice player that can give Drax Float Like a Butterfly.
-
Bring a Pool hero who can put down Live Dangerously on the second to last turn.
-
If someone is sure to get Build Support out, you can use IPAC on the final turn to make the sequence even easier.
Let me know in the comments if this version is easier to pull off. Have fun!

Apr 06, 2024Hopefully payment is in process! Anyone who's used this loop, let me know how it worked out. |
Jun 26, 2024Mostly dead - love the reference. Your name is InigoMontoya - villain prepare to die |
Jun 26, 2024Why the Honorary Guardian ? All your Allys are Guardians Just to thin out the deck. Wouldn't do Endurance and Down Time similar or Repurpose be better? I'm by far no expert - I just want to learn. |

Honorary Guardian is there for multiple reasons. You can use them to keep Mantis or Gamora in for an extra round. You can put them on Drax since he needs all the health he can get with the Taunts. You can also give them to those playing with you so they can use CITT or benefit from another player using Blaze of Glory. |
Happy to consult on this my friend! My fee can be paid in successful Taunt loops
