Colossus is looking for a Change of Fortune with Warpath.
The idea here is to get setup with Change of Fortune, Warpath with a Honorary X-Men on him, and Nightcrawler out. This will allow you to defend with Warpath, prevent the damage with Nightcrawler, and play a "Hero Action" event each villain phase. This will allow you to either attack minions during the villain phase to trigger Change of Fortune or deal with additional villain attacks as stunning and confusing the villain with Steel Fist in the middle of the villain phase is a great value play especially in multiplayer.
Let's look at some of the other cards that make up the deck.
- Taunt great with Colossus, so much so that you should probably add a third copy, but if you need convincing head over to Hit Me Babushka, One More Time and read about why Taunt is so good with Colossus there.
- "Come Get Me, Bub!" is pretty much and auto-include in Change of Fortune deck, as it allows you to get minions to trigger Change of Fortune but also has great value here in adding a tough to Colossus. As this can be important if you need it to take advantage of his signature events Bulletproof Protector, Made of Rage, or Steel Fist.
- The X-Jet allows you to pay the cost to trigger Nightcrawler's ability each turn and Team-Building Exercise and Helicarrier help pay for him each turn. Playing each Nightcrawler each turn also means that you can take advantage of Utopia to ready an X-Men each turn.
- Powerful Punch is pretty stand in Change of Fortune decks and give you a way to trigger it if you don't have Warpath in play.
- If you are getting full advantage of Armor Up, as described in the deck The Night Guard, and ending each hero phase in alter-ego Moira MacTaggert is amazing and you will get lots of use out of Cerebro as having Cerebro (especially if you have Legion or Professor X out) and Piotr's Studio in play ensures that you will be able grab two more cards that can be used as resources if not alright played once you flip to your alter-ego.
- Polaris is just another way to get a tough on Colossus (or Warpath with an Honorary X-Men).
- Forge of course is to get Cerebro, Utopia, or The X-Jet in play.
- Triage is a solid low cost ally but could easily be dropped or exchanged for something else.
- Serve and Protect can help keep Warpath around if you don't have Nightcrawler but is the 41st card in deck that can easily be dropped in single player. If you are playing multiplayer (especially with an X-Force hero) you may want to consider adding the second and third copy of it to the deck.
Some thoughts on a few cards left out of the deck.
- Unflappable and Electrostatic Armor are generally included in Change of Fortune decks but with Colossus you generally don't defend (unless you want to Powerful Punch) someone so you won't get as much use out of them as normal.
- Hope Summers, Hard Knocks, Dauntless, which I don't normally like but could work really well with Colossus (who is fairly easy to keep at full health especially with "Come Get Me, Bub!"), could be great additions but I wanted to keep the deck size low.
