Spider-Man cashing in check

No expansions? No problem! This series of decks builds the most effective decks possible using just the core-set cards. For Spider-Man, aggression feels like a natural fit—after all, with great power comes great responsibility to punch bad guys really hard. This deck takes full advantage of Spidey's knack for hitting villains where it hurts, keeping threat under control, and surviving even the toughest fights.

Core Strategy

Spider-Man's agility and strength combine in this deck to make him an all-around threat to any villain's plans. His Swinging Web Kick hits like a truck, while Relentless Assault ensures even the toughest minions don’t stand a chance. Between his resource-generating Web-Shooter and protection tools like Backflip, this deck emphasizes a relentless offense to complement the deck's innate defense from the character-specific cards.

Mulligan

Your opening hand sets the tone for how Spidey starts the fight. Look for:

  • Web-Shooter: Essential for fueling your most powerful attacks early on. The quicker this gets on the board, the better.
  • Aunt May: With great punching power comes the need for great healing. Get her out early to maximize recovery.
  • Helicarrier and Avengers Mansion: Both help Spider-Man stay resource-rich, which is key for consistently swinging for big damage.

If you have Webbed Up early, consider keeping it to stop the villain from attacking twice and allowing you to stay in hero form longer.

Early Game

In the early game, your focus is on setting up your resources and dealing with minions.

Mid Game

By the mid game, you should have Web-Shooter and Helicarrier fueling your plays, with Aunt May ready to heal you when needed. This is where Spider-Man shines as an all-rounder:

  • Use Swinging Web Kick to deal huge damage to the villain, ideally while Tac Team and Tigra handle smaller enemies.
  • Mockingbird and Nick Fury can come in to stun or provide extra utility while you focus on dishing out damage.
  • Webbed Up is a great way to lock down the villain, giving you more time to recover or set up additional attacks.

Your key focus should be to maximize damage while keeping minions and threat in check. Use your events efficiently and keep the pressure on.

Late Game

By the late game, your setup should be complete, and you’ll be in full swing (literally).

  • The villain should be on the ropes, and you can focus on closing out the game with big hits from Uppercut and Swinging Web Kick.
  • By now, you should be comfortably managing any threat with Chase Them Down while landing blow after blow on the villain.

Between your allies and Spider-Man's powerful attacks, the final stages of the game will see you overpowering the villain.

Conclusion

This core set Spider-Man deck proves you don’t need expansions to deliver a knockout punch. With Spidey's signature mix of damage, agility, and utility, this deck packs a serious wallop while keeping the battlefield under control. Get in, set up, and let the web-swinging wall-crawler bring the hurt!

I love good decks that don’t require a ton of packs. Tac team is lowkey one of my favorite cards, and chase them down is great!

@andyr Tac Team is also one of my favorite cards. It often works its way into my decks, even when building decks from all packs.
