Side Step for 6 damage! - Captain America (Edited) | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1.0 |

-
Side Step + Nerves of Steel = 1 damage + Dauntless = 2 damage + Electrostatic Armor = 3 damage + Captain America's Shield's retaliate = 4 damage + Energy Barrier = 5 damage + Flow Like Water = 6 damage for any enemy attack 4 or greater.
-
Flow Like Water (Defensive Stance takes its place in the deck) is a card being released with Vision's Hero pack. It's a game-changer for Defense events, and for the "No Defending" Protection builds. It deals the attacking enemy 1 damage for every Defense event played (It doesn't exhaust). In this deck that includes: Desperate Defense, Preemptive Strike, Side Step and Shield Block.
-
It also works great for a hybrid Protection build like this one where you'd try to use Defense events first, but have no problem defending when necessary.
Here's a scenario that happened while my son and I tested this build:
-
Cap has Flow Like Water, Electrostatic Armor and Energy Barrier out (Couldn't play Dauntless, sadly).
-
Cap draws into 1 Side Step and 2 Desperate Defenses. Villain attacks Cap. Cap defends with Desperate Defense for 5. Villain attacks for 5, and gets hit 4 damage. Cap readies, and gets a card from Unflappable. The villain attacks Wasp. Cap defends and uses the second Desperate Defense for 5. Villain attacks for 4, and gets hit for 4. Cap readies. Minion with 4 attack and 4 health attacks Wasp. Cap defends then uses Side Step + Nerves of Steel. Cap defends for 3 + Side Step, and minion gets hit for 4 and dies.

I tried a couple different heroes with this type of deck, Cap was the best. Black Panther was second. Cap just has such versatility and can generate so many resources. I love protection decks where you can do damage but not exhaust to defend. I have a feeling Gwen will be the king and queen of this deck when she comes out. Can't wait for those cards you mention! Protection is getting a nice buff! |
I was just building and playtesting something like this for Spiderman, using Jump Flip (Gwen protection card) and Jocasta (Vision) for retrieving Backflips and stuff. And it was ok, my conclusion was what Im seeing here, Cap just does it sooooo much better, since he has constant resources, dmg and thw.
I just feel sad cause it feels thematic to just avoid and hit with Spiderman.
My sadness aside I really like this deck and playstyle for protection, it will get even better for Cap once you are able to play What Doesn't Kill me from Gwen's pack to heal and ready again using Super-Soldier's Serum to pay its requirement! GJ!
