Rocket Raccoon has joined forces with the super-spies of S.H.I.E.L.D to unleash some massive thwart, damage, and utility potential.
The Premise
Rocket Raccoon is one of my favorite heros to play as. His card draw is spectacular with a non-limited hero ability and an engine developing alter-ego ability. His kit is pre-equipped with cards that deal excellent damage over time, as well as Schadenfreude that can keep him topped off with health and one of my favorite thwarting cards in the game, I've Got a Plan. His kit is so good that I figured all he really needed for a functional deck was a good suite of basic cards and the deck grew from there.
Rocket is a hero that wants to flip often, with a small health pool and a great AE ability. If you're going to be in alter-ego form frequently, you're going to need some spectacular thwart and confusion.
The Execution
No one likes it when you drop down to AE and pull the dastardly smiling Red Skull, who breaks the scheme in one turn and theres not much you can do about it. That is where the super spies come in. Spycraft cannot be played without either Nick Fury or Agent Coulson, but thankfully both of them actively help you draw that card. Once it's out it can stay on the board even after your spies bite the Universal Weapon, so you save that until you absolutely need it to prevent a game end. If you have more than one out you can use one of them a bit more liberally, but treat that card as the difference twixts a relaxing romp in the garrage tinxering with guns, and total demise.
The rest of the deck flows smoothly with Rocket's insane 15 cards. Side Holster is an absolute must for any Rocket deck, allowing for both pistols and a Particle Cannon or even better a Sonic Rifle. The Sonic Rifle is another key tool for when you can't craft spies, and better still you can use Battery Pack to keep it alive forever. Lay Down the Law is a better For Justice! that compliments Rocket's flipping, and Making an Entrance helps keep Rocket even more healthy if your allies can't tank all your damage for you. I've included The Power in All of Us to help keep Lockjaw out to tank most hits when you can.
The Conclusion
Rocket is crazy and will do everything you need him to, on his own terms of course. S.H.I.E.L.D is around to clean up for you, while you tear up the town with a host of weapons.
Have fun and let me know what you think!
