This was a powerful, easy-to-pilot defense deck that I made to try out the new-ish card Hard to Ignore. It was tweaked mid-campaign and overcame Rise of the Red Skull on expert. Hope you can test it out on others and report back!
Deck Concept: Blocking and Retaliation
-
first run through the deck just try to block, stay alive, and play most of your Upgrades & Supports. The only ones not important are the Helmet and the Apartment because you’ll try to avoid being in Alter Ego
-
use Armored Vest and Captain America's Shield to achieve DEF 4, so that you rarely take damage. This ought to help trigger Unflappable, which grants free cards when you block and take no damage
-
there’s often a minion and a villain attacking. Use Shield Block and Jump Flip to prevent damage from the second attack
-
Electrostatic Armor bumps your retaliate. That triggers card draw from Change of Fortune when you defeat a villain during the Villain Phase
-
Change of Fortune is a great engine for card draw, so if no minions are on the table you can seek them out with or "Come Get Me, Bub!". You’ll heal 3 hit points, gain a tough status, and upon defeat earn two more cards
-
If you can ready Cap or have a block in hand, an alternative is to summon your nemesis Baron Zemo with Face the Past. It draws free cards (instead of healing), but also has the effect of making your nemesis appearance less of a trouble. By defeating Zemo early all you’ll have to do is cope with Hit Squad.
-
Northstar is an important ally to keep on the table. He mitigates random high boosts (he’s like a more-efficient version of Target Acquired). This is important, since your cards key off of taking no damage.
Healing
- You have 5 cards that heal damage. Focus on yourself and Northstar. Possibly heal whichever ally has Sidearm attached.
Contribute to Thwarting Schemes
-
constant thwart is ramped up from Hard to Ignore
-
bursts of Thwarting come from Agent 13, Rogue. Also an occasional Fearless Determination and Jump Flip
Allies
-
Rogue is awesome... if you have excess healing cards to spare! Else she's just average, so bear that in mind if you have to decide between which ally to play. Her ability to do 4 thwart is a game-saver while you’re getting down your kit
-
The Sidearm is great for either Northstar or Spider-Man, but not a vital card. Not played every scenario, but key for villains with retaliate. It pays off when Med Teams can make it worth the investment.
-
All the allies have 3 Hit Points, so any of them can benefit from the Med Teams
Alternative Card Ideas
- Counter-Punch
- Bait and Switch for some thwart
- Under Control is crazy efficient but only on the toughest minions
While looking at similar decks just now I see that Not Today! is strictly superior to Jump Flip, so that’s already an improvement that I missed!
