"Hold In There, Citizens!"
— Luke Cage, to a bunch of 1HP citizens...
(Don't forget to drop a like/fav, it's always appreciated :) )
Overview:
- Play Style: 1HP DEFENDERs archetype, with many tough and readies.
- Fun: High (Misty Knight is crazy good here).
- Difficulty: Medium (manage your tough and counters).
- Power level: Strong.
- Recommended Player Count: 1-4.
- Number of cards: 42 (including 1 PSS).
Concept:
Play DEFENDERS allies, and rush them to 1HP for Righteous Purpose. Then keep them alive by giving them tough status cards, or exhausting them for Strength In Numbers or Teamwork.
Sort out defense with Luke's own kit + Iron Fist + tons of Defensive Formation.
Attack and Thwart with a 6 THW/ATK Misty Knight (Righteous Purpose, Defensive Formation and Inspired). Or a giant Hulk! Then ready them, give them more tough status cards, and do it again!
How to play this deck / combos:
1. Early game
- Mulligan for an ally or Call for Backup.
- Of course, you should always aim for a turn 1 Burstein Process, so don't mulligan too hard.
- Play Misty Knight and Righteous Purpose asap.
- Try to also play The Triskelion during first pass! And Iron Fist to unlock Power Man and Iron Fist.
- Defensive Formation is better than Command Team oveall, but try to play both for maximum efficiency!
- Fogwell's Gym is very good here!
2. Gameplay + combos
- Try to always take the hit for your allies. But don't hesitate to use some "block counters" from Defensive Formation to...defend if need be :p
- Misty Knight goes to 1+2+2+1 THW/ATK with Righteous Purpose, Defensive Formation and Inspired.
- She can activate/exhaust multiple times per turn with Fogwell's Gym and Command Teams.
- Hulk goes to 2+2+1+X ATK with Righteous Purpose and tough status cards to keep him alive. He's slow but I like him in this deck as he can reach 1Hp in one turn (not necessarily the turn you play him) with our Command Teams.
- Sidearms could either go on Hulk or Mighty Knight depending on the retaliate situation.
- Teamwork increase even more the value of these two, without costing you a tough status card, nor consequential damage! Luke Cage is able to ready a lot so you should always be able to play it.
- Iron Fist can tank minions, along side Metal Bracer. Try to keep him alive as long as possible because Power Man and Iron Fist is a pretty good tough generator.
- Valkyrie is a great safety net that can hit/thwart hard once at 1HP.
- In multiplayer, Hellcat (not included here) is super cool and fun! You can play her for free and use 2 Command Team (or even 3 + Defensive Formation) to deal/thwart 2+2+4+4=12
Other cards to consider:
- Build Support + Knowhere for a 5 allies limit instead of 4. I started with this, but it is too many cards :p
- You can mix and match the Strength In Numberss and Teamworks to your preference. I feel like this is the best loadout.
- In multiplayer, Hellcat is super cool, see above to understand why. I didn't really need here in solo as this is I think this is just a win-more combo :)
- Avengers Mansion.
- Professor X! I'm tired of him, but you probably should include him for most true solo games! ;)
Anyway, enjoy, have fun,
and don't forget to drop a like/fav, it's always appreciated :)

Also, I added this text to explain why Hellcat isn't included here:

Aug 22, 2026Amazing! After playing Luke Cage's modified precon I didn't know where to go with him in Leadership. This looks like it is a great direction. Is this a Luke Cage deck? Or will it work just as well for other Defenders? Or even any hero? The only cards that care about the Defender trait are Defensive Formation (but only allies) and She-Hulk. What other heroes would you suggest for this archetype? (1 HP Defenders Leadership) |

That being said, the archetype works pretty well even without it (I did not draw the Gym every time in my tests). I think this archetype is good in both cases:
I haven't tried it yet of course. |
This looks great love the leaning into 1HP and using SiN or Teamwork to extend them. Great work!
