Nick Fury. Probably my favorite hero released in 2025. One of my favorite characters from Marvel, and his playstyle did not disappoint. He turns any scenario into a puzzle, and it is fun to manage his suit. I built this deck because:
- Nick Fury is an awesome hero
- Protection is a fun aspect
- I wanted to make good use of Ready for a Fight,a card I recently acquired(thank you Silk!).
- I wanted to make good use of Sky-Destroyer, which is SO STRONG, especially in non-aggression decks that have trouble dealing damage. Alright, lets break down the deck.
Gameplan:
Setting Up/Early Game: Obviously, you need to prioritize Nick's two main cards, Fury's Flying Car and Fury's Watch. The car gives him a free ready every turn for 1 threat, while the watch turns threat into resources, allowing his economy to soar. Also, make sure to get out Team-Building Exercise, as a lot of the cards in this deck are S.H.I.E.L.D., so it can help a lot. Sky-Destroyer is a must, as this deck does not have much damage in it, and Helicarrier is nice to have out, but not necessary. White Widow is a pretty reliable source of thwarting, who will usually stay out the whole game, so try to get her over other allies. Also, Leo Fitz is very strong in this deck, as you can use him to search out Fury's Watch and Fury's Flying Car, which as I said before, are absolutely necessary for Nick. Secret Agent is also good, as there are a lot of preps in this deck.
Allies Breakdown: Before I explain endgame, I want to break down each of the allies in this deck and how useful they are. Knowing the value can be pretty important, especially since you will most likely have to choose between them in some hands.
Maria Hill: Obviously the best ally in this deck for Nick. She really gets a lot of threat on his suit, and she does it fast, while also doing good threat removal. You need to try to keep her alive as long as possible, as she really pays off. You can use S.H.I.E.L.D. Deputy to give her extra health, and Stronger Together to stop her from taking damage when she thwarts. She also enables Super Spies, which is just free threat for the suit. In summary, prioritize her over all other allies.
White Widow: Guess what guys? I managed to put Yelena in a deck that wasn't Black Widow! She is a pretty niche ally, and she is only really good if you are running a lot of preps. But if you are running preparations, she is amazing. Basically, she gets free heals whenever you resolve a preparation that doesn't cost zero, so she won't die. She has bad attack, but her thwart is nice. She is expensive to play at first, but pays off in the end. If you really want to lean into the preparation side of this deck, prioritize her and Secret Agent, as you can pull of nice combos.
Nick Fury, Sr.: Since this is a Nick Fury deck, I obviously can't be running Nick Fury, even if he is OP. This guy is the next best thing though, at least for S.H.I.E.L.D. people. Don't ever use the card draw option, as it's pretty lackluster. The thwarting is good though, and the tough is very strong. Apart from his entering effect, he can do 2 thwart or attack, and then chump. I'd say that's some pretty good value, not even mentioning that he triggers Sky-Destroyer.
Melinda May: She has decent stats and good scrying. She just helps you to know what boost you'll have to deal with, and you can discard it if you don't like it. She is competent, but definitely choose any of the previous three over her.
Mockingbird: Pretty simple. A stun, some damage and thwart, then a chump later. Very strong though, as that's two blocked attacks and a bit of thwart. She is also on the cheaper side, so she can be pretty easy to play.
Grant Ward: Speaking of cheap, here's the notorious turncoat himself, Grant Ward. Stat wise, he is unbelievable. 0 for 3 health, 2 attack and 2 thwart?!? Once you get to his ability box, it starts to make more sense though. He can't defend, and he'll damage you and promptly leave the game if you don't spend a mental resource every time there is a treachery. Being completely honest, this guy stresses me out. I always want to get rid of him as quick as possible. Be careful when you play him. Sometimes it's cheaper not to, if that makes sense.
Black Widow: Straight out of the core set, the OG Shadow of the Past blocker is here. She can do some thwarting, and then do her cancelation stuff. She is also S.H.I.E.L.D., so more damage from Sky-Destroyer.
End Game: Once you have stabilized, your main strat will be to cycle allies and run the preparation engine. You also want to start saving up threat so you can have lots of damage ready for the final push. The ally cycle is pretty simple. Just play and use the S.H.I.E.L.D. allies you have, and grabs some damage from Sky-Destroyer. One of the things that stressed me most with Nick was getting back safely into Stealth mode. Luckily, it's super easy to do in this deck. Since you can flip down for free with Ready for a Fight, you can go back to stealth whenever you want, thanks to his alter-ego ability. When your flipped, you can also grab some heals or threat from Safe House #221. Leo Fitz will grab you some tech you might need as well, like Eyepatch Camera or EM Shield. Since those are also preps, you can get easy heals for White Widow. Control threat with allies and your own basic thwarts, and you should be able to easily control and defeat the villain.
Combos: Now that the deck is explained, I want to expand upon some of my interesting card picks. First up, S.H.I.E.L.D. Deputy. This card serves a few purposes.
- You can use it on other heroes to give them a bit of health and more importantly the S.H.I.E.L.D. trait. This will allow you to block some damage for them with Stronger Together.
- If you attach it to an ally, it will just give them an extra point of health. Normally this would not be good, but Maria Hill and Melinda May really benefit off of this. On other allies, it essentially gives them an extra activation.
- In a pinch, you can just use it for extra health for yourself. Secondly, Stronger Together. This card is amazing. It allows you to reduce damage for literally any reason, whether its from an attack or if it's just consequential damage. I love it so much. That is also the reason I included Armored Vest. Nick almost never defends, but it increases the damage you can block with Stronger Together.
Conclusion: I like this deck a lot. It's fun to play, and thematically satisfying. Feel free to leave recommendations and critiques in the comments! -N30N
