LACK OF SUBTLETY · 2933
Another shot at a Current Environment deck. This time, rather than using a new hero, I wanted to see how a hero fares that was created long before Current was even a twinkling of an idea.
Good news, there are a lot of useful Protection cards in the Current environment. Also, Spider-Man is a good protection hero and has those built-in Swinging Web Kick cards to still do some damage. Bad news, he does not have a a lot of tools other than Spider-Tracer to help with thwart, so it might struggle in solo.
Spider-Man has loads of ways to protect, ready and gain tough status. He can easily protect himself and some teammates. Patriot paired with "Come Get Me, Bub!" is a great combo if you need a little healing or there is a big villain damage hit coming.
You have two main sources of damage to the villain, Swinging Web Kick and Riposte. Black Cat can nibble away and knock off tough statuses, Patriot can land a couple of hits, but his Toughs are way too valuable to use him up attacking, and Yellow Jacket is likely going to be used for fishing out an upgrade, thwarting once and then either chump blocking or for another thwart if your defenses are in place.
The weird card that I put in here to see what I could do with it is Under Control. It's a great tool for getting rid of minions except for the requirement to defend against the minion's attack. Usually you can shrug off minion damage, but since you are usually going to want to use your basic defense against the villain, you need other ways to defend for minion attacks. So this deck is loaded up with Indomitable and "I Can Do This All Day" cards to allow you to take a second basic defense, or to use Cuts Both Ways to defend without exhausting (and gain Retaliate 1).
How does it work? Just fine. It's a good "protect (most of) the table" deck that can deal some damage in return without running itself out of cards (usually). It doesn't make for super-quick wins, but is decent if you decide to play with Current Environment restrictions.

Oh, for the record. This the current environment as of 12/2025 if you somehow dig this up at a later date and Current is still a thing.
