Iron Man Threat Prevention

This deck doesn't do a lot of thwarting, but it does a lot of main-threat prevention, which is better in a way because it prevents the main from completing.

In the mean time, it gives him time to build his suit because staying down in alter-ego on your first turn (primarily in solo where the threat threshold is so much lower) is a lot less scary.

Turn One

Three copies each of Foiled!, Counterintelligence, and Under Surveillance - while keeping the total card count to 40 - increases the odds that you'll see one or more of these cards in your opening hand or mulligan, and if you didn't you still have one more chance to get one with the Futurist Action.

With these in hand or in play staying in alter-ego on the first turn is far less scary, allowing you to keep digging for tech.

Don't worry that you can't play your second and third copies of Under Surveillance because they have an icon which fuels Repulsor Blast (as long as they're not in your hand).

If you end up with more of the same in your next hand, stay down again. I feel like I only need three TECH upgrades in play to flip up. A hand size of four is okay until I get another one out.

Discarding from the top of your deck

Repulsor Blast and the Futurist Action both let you discard cards from the top of your deck, and while you're hoping cards with the resource are discarded with the former, you're happy to see Digging Deep discarded with the latter, and White Fox with either.

6 Packs

I tried really hard to get this down to 5 packs (Core plus 4), but three cards which are really good here haven't been reprinted yet:

  • Agent Coulson has been reprinted in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but Counterintelligence is currently only found in the Black Widow pack.
  • Foiled! is currently only found in the Dr. Strange pack
  • Ingenuity is currently only found in the Ironheart pack

Just tried this deck out against Expert Sabertooth and it ripped! 3 copies of Under Surveillance is a great move. It ensures you are likely to get it early, it serves as an alter-ego "thwart 4" card, and the energy resources on the unused copies are great to have in your deck for late-game Repulsor Blast plays. Also, it feels great to hit White Fox or Digging Deep in a Futurist.
