Wealth of Wakanda

The heart of Wakanda's prosperity, Vibranium, pulses through this deck, manifesting as an incredible wealth of card draw. This abundance empowers Shuri's genius and unlocks her array of potent upgrades. She leads a formidable alliance, including the steadfast Dora Milaje, her brother, the venerable T'Challa, and the reality-bending Manifold. Reinforcements arrive from afar with the likes of Ironheart, Nick Fury, and Moon Girl joining the fray. Read on to discover the numerous synergies encompassed within the deck, as Shuri and her allies forge an unbreakable path to Wakandan victory.

VILLAINS TESTED AGAINST to refine the deck and/or game play strategies (and UNDEFEATED in both standard and expert): Klaw (with an expert house rule(1)); Black Widow; M.O.D.O.K; and Magneto.

NOTABLE ELEMENTS OF PLAY:

Card Draw: The goal is to allow the deck's many card draw sources to quickly set up Shuri's kit and semi-permanent allies in order to handle all minions and threat and then deal consistent damage to the villain as opportunities arise, and they arise frequently). Card Draw sources are numerous and include the following:

Facilitating Flipping to Alter-Ego to Fully Utilize Shuri's Black Panther Upgrades: For this build, Shuri wants to go to alter-ego regularly to use her Inventor ability.

  • 3 copies of Ready to Rumble: To allow Shuri to thwart or attack when she returns to hero form after using her alter-ego ability, Inventor.
  • Under Surveillance: To allow Shuri to flip to alter-ego more safely, sometimes even when the villain is not confused.
  • Kimoyo Beads and 2 copies of Upside the Head: To confuse the villain.
    • Aja-Adanna allows one to utilize the Kimoyo Beads repeatedly.

Notable Allies Not Yet Mentioned:

  • T'Challa: First, note that one needn't play T'Challa the first time he shows up in hand since Aja-Adanna can cycle him back into the deck. That said, he's an extremely powerful ally since he can trigger the Special ability on a Black Panther upgrade each time he attacks or thwarts, so once he's in play, the goal is to keep him there, which is the reason for the inclusion of the two First Aids.
  • Aneka, Ayo, and Okoye: At least one of these can be kept in play the entire game because of Dora Milaje; at times, a First Aid might be used to keep a second one in the game, though that's not necessarily desired since other allies provide wanted card draw. These cards do, however, have amazing synergies to take advantage of.

Damaging the villain throughout the game and finishing big when necessary:

  • Because the Black Panther upgrades can be triggered so frequently by Shuri, her Black Panther events, and by T'Challa, she frequently can deal enough damage and remove enough threat each turn to remove all minions and threat, with leftover damage to deal to the villain. That being the case, she often quickly gets the villain to its final version and is then ready to take it out, sometimes needing little damage to finish it off.
  • That said, this deck is capable of high final turn damage as well, often finishing the game with anywhere between 17 and 24 points of damage.

Conclusion:

This deck delivers on the promise of Wakanda's might through an incredibly efficient gameplay loop. Thanks to a wealth of card draw from Manifold's schemes, Moon Girl's insights, and more, you'll quickly assemble Shuri's full arsenal. Flipping to alter-ego with Under Surveillance and confusing villains with Kimoyo Beads ensures Shuri's Inventor ability is constantly exploited, making her Black Panther upgrades a perpetual threat. With T'Challa repeatedly activating those upgrades and the Dora Milaje holding the line, you'll maintain relentless pressure, clearing minions and threat with ease. Don't be fooled by the consistent, controlled damage—this deck is also fully capable of finishing games with a massive final strike, often hitting for 17 to 24 damage, demonstrating the power of Wakanda and securing victory against all foes.

(1) Note on expert house rule for Klaw: This modification assures that expert Klaw makes for a consistently challenging villain during playtesting. After discarding cards at the beginning of the game and putting into play the first minion that is discarded from the encounter deck, if that minion is NOT a Masters of Evil minion, I search the encounter deck for a Masters of Evil minion and replace the original discarded minion with it. I then shuffle that original minion back into the deck.
