Venom has quickly become one of my favorite hero’s and this was the deck that I had the most success with even beating Ronan the Accuser consistently with this deck. This deck is just rock solid and has no real weaknesses, although threat removal can be a challenge before you have Multi-Gun in play which is why I like Rocket Raccoon in the deck. That said, this deck consistently sets up easy and quick and packs a punch. It has AOE and damage alongside a fair bit of control with stuns and confuses.
This deck follows along my style of using both The Power in All of Us and The Power of Protection to lead to more explosive draws and Venom’s extra resource every turn just further accelerates this approach.
A couple notes on cards in the deck.
Nova is a great add in this deck as Venom’s ability can be triggered once every Phase. So you can essentially trade 2 damage for one damage to Venom which can be really important especially as it is an interrupt and thus can kill an attacker before it damages you. That said, outside of Nova this deck doesn’t make great use of Venom’s ability during the villain phase when compared with other protection decks that focus on Defense Events.
Energy Barrier has some weird interactions with Venom’s hero power that are important to understand. When you activate Venom’s ability you can use Energy Barrier to redirect the damage BUT you won’t get the resource so choose carefully which you want to do.
The only other card worth commenting on is Plasma Pistol which is really there just to prevent too much of the deck getting discarded with Venom’s setup ability. I found having an extra weapon was important for that. This is also why I didn’t love Gamora in the deck. The extra discard just led to too many early extra encounter cards which just didn’t seem worth it although if you like her she does work fine with Venom. I also considered Machine Man as a way to use extra resources but the deck is so tight I couldn’t fit it in
