As I wait for Agents of Shield to be available in Canada (sad face) I thought I'd drop a deck that doesn't require any of the cool new cards I'm waiting to showcase decks for.
This is one that I had assumed had been done already, but to my surprise, the only other published deck right now that uses Thor to play Pinned Down after Face the Past is this one by gammabyte. If you have a minute, give that one a look because there's a pretty cool and convoluted combo in that one - and if you're reading a write up by teamcanadahockey2002, there's probably a chance you like fun combos.
But back to this - the idea really just speaks for itself. Use Face the Past to find Loki and ready and draw 5 cards. Then, play Pinned Down on Loki and leave him there for the rest of the game. It's incredibly thematic and satisfying.
Personally, I like to take Mjolnir and put it on top of Loki for thematic effect.
Otherwise, this deck takes advantage of a lot of good stuff to play with Thor. Ever Vigilant and What Doesn't Kill Me are excellent ways to ready, and can be powered by The Power of Protection. Come Get Me Bub! and Defender of the Nine Realms are perfect for grabbing a minion and then drawing 2 cards. Godlike Staminana throws in some healing and Limitless Stamina gives another ready.
Personally, one of my favorites to add is Nightcrawler, because on turns you aren't Tough or where you want to intentionally take some damage (for What Doesn't Kill Me or Come Get Me Bub), Nightcrawler is a pretty decent way to use one of your resources from GGod of Thunder, completely negating an attack, plus giving you 2 THW which is something that Thor really lacks.
Anyways, this is my take on a green Thor, but you can always change out cards depending on your playstyle. But start adding Face the Past and Pinned Down and you'll have a blast laughing at the God of Mischief as he lies there helplessly.
Bonus Fun - if you play Standard III and you fill up Pursued by the Past with counters, there is nothing more satisfying than having Loki activate and then do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! (Note: It doesn't even bring out the side scheme and the other minions!!! How crazy is that!)
Until next time Champions...

Mar 20, 2025Loved the deck! Some neat interactions from last night: Loki snached some HP attachments from the encounter and kept being there, attacking for 0, what a nice brother! Dreadpool joined the party thanks to my friend's pink aspect, and to my surprise, a Pinned Down was the perfect answer for a imortal enemy. |
Mar 21, 2025Lovely deck and combo! The only annoying thing is that you cannot attack the villain on the turn you play Face the Past, which really dampens the explosiveness of that turn: you draw 5 cards but A) you cannot attack the villain and B) you don't care about attacking Pinned Down Loki, so either you play a lot of supports and upgrades on that turn, or use your attacks and damaging events on other minions. Either way, it's a bit of a waste. Otherwise, very thematic and satisfying! |
Mar 21, 2025I've had fun with some Nightcrawler Ally decks including the Astonishing X-Men side-scheme as well. Did you consider that, or are you de fending with Nightcrawler a small enough amount that it wouldn't go off? |
Mar 21, 2025Thor outsmarting Loki is so thematic and funny. Bravo! |
Mar 27, 2025I love the deck! My only notes are to find a way to add in Unflappable, as a Pinned Down Loki will always trigger it for the extra card on the Villian phase. |

Mar 27, 2025`@teamcanadahockey2002 I agree that it is redundant, I was just pointing out that at baseline (with a pinned down Loki) there is a essentially free card draw from Unflappable. Usually, you'll defend against one of the other minions you've pulled on board and defending against the Villain is a little more risky. Usually you'll want the villain to hit you in the face anyway, so you can pay for What Doesn't Kill Me. If you want to get the most out of your Defend action, you can also try to find slots for Hard to Ignore. I only mentioned Unflappable because the theme of the deck seemed to be about the card draw. |

The only way Unflappable would ever work then is if you exhaust to defend, but that gives up Thor's activation to attack later on the hero turn. I've never really seen Thor as a hero that wants to defend very often, only when absolutely necessary. Also, it wouldn't really make sense to defend Loki with a DEF 2 when you've already reduced Loki's attack down to 0 anyways with Pinned Down. Anyways, maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're advocating for, but I would rarely be defending with Thor in a deck like this. Exhausting to get back a single card isn't likely to be a good play, because it's generally 2ER to play something like Limitless Stamina to be readied again. Plus it completely defeats the whole point of using Pinned Down on Loki. Let me know if I'm not understanding what you're trying to articulate here? Cheers! |

Personally, I like to use Nightcrawler on turns when I don't have a copy of What Doesn't Kill Me and I'm fully built out, just because he comes back to my hand again and I can play him to get another 2 Thwart out of, plus suck up some of my extra resources - I've found that there are times that I have more resources than I can use, like if I have 2 double resources and 2 minion summoning cards. |

If the question then becomes "Is a next round attack activation worth more than an extra card draw", you would also have a point. In the case of this deck in particular, I think you can get away with it, because there are so many hero ready cards in the deck. |
Apr 20, 2025Very similar to the last Thor deck my wife played a while back, but no pinned down or nightcrawler and ran Symbiote Suit, Endurance, Quincarrier and Deft Focus instead. Very nice and fun change outs IMO. Love that you throw the hammer on him haha! |
I love Green Thor! I've played quite a bit of him the last few weeks and I tend to land more on the side of gammabyte's combo of using Change of Fortune, but I left Warpath at home.
This deck looks really solid to grab minions, let them get pinned down until you can deal with them, so that's cool. Looks really effective solo. I'm not sure if Nightcrawler works as written though, since it says X-Men, but if you are teaming up and protecting other heroes with the trait, it's all good.
