Here's my take on Voltron Iron Man. Use Call for Aid to get Iron Man. You might discard most of your deck, but getting one encounter card is a small price to pay to get this deck going. Get Honorary Guardian on Iron Man asap to take full advantage of Guardians of the Galaxy. Each upgrade is free and lets you draw a card. Make sure to put a copy of Honorary Guardian on Nebula so the card draw still works while she's in Alter-Ego.
With all 8 Upgrades, Iron Man becomes a 4-THW, 5-ATK, 7-Health Ally. Sky Cycle lets Iron Man activate twice and First Aid keeps him going strong all game. If Iron Man's health gets low, play Teamwork for some huge swings from Nebula.
You might be thinking why Nebula? Wouldn't it be easier to use Starlord and Iron Man just becomes a Guardian? Yeah! But Theme is more fun. In the MCU, after Thanos snaps, Nebula and Iron Man are the only 2 left on Titan. They are forced to deal with that tragic event with a complete stranger, and through it build a common respect.
Nebula is great here for many reasons. Her technique upgrades only cost 1 resource and give her many types of passive benefits. If you flip down to Alter-ego and back to Hero the next turn, you should be drawing 2 bonus cards on every turn because of the Cybernetic Upgrades response. Add that to the Iron Man/Guardians of the Galaxy card draws and you'll be swimming in extra cards.
Nebula's hero response, Combat Protocols is like a free event or two. With a versatile 2-2-2 stat line, Nebula is able to clean up whatever Iron Man can't get to. Get Nebula's Ship out to help pay for her techniques. Use the extra copies of Guardians of the Galaxy and Call for Aid as resources to pay for technique upgrades as well. Because Iron Man is the only expensive card, there is no need for resource cards. Just use whatever you have in your hand to get him out, you'll see those cards again. Daughters of Thanos is in there for card draw if for some reason you pull Gamora before Iron man or Call for Aid. She'll help keep you alive until you can get the deck rolling.

Feb 01, 2025Thanks, I looked into that. I wanted to keep the card cost low so I don't need to take up slots with resource cards. Because Iron Man has a cost of 4, Call for Aid lets you get him out the same turn you pull him from your deck. With Suit Up you have to wait a turn. In playtesting, Teamwork and Daughters of Thanos are the cards I play the least, so with Call for Aid that's 7 slots to work with. S0 put in 3 Suit up, 3 double resources and a Teamwork would work too. Thanks for the feedback. |
Feb 02, 2025I've never built a deck with no doubles! With s few 2 - 4 cost cards that makes a lot of sense. I'll try this one and see what I think! |
Love the theme!
Idea for you: If you have Suit Up in your card pool, you can get both Iron Man and Honorary Guardian at the same time.
