Yea, yea, UXM is a strong build for all mutants, but this deck is unique in that you also use it to get plenty of readies to use your big stats on!
R&D Facility can be tough for some to run, but it's very strong for Magneto. Being able to easily get 3 readies a turn, between cape and Utopia already puts the output on par with a fully charged Royal Flush or a boosted Three Steps Ahead with say a Passion for Justice, albeit across 3 turns. Adding Go All Out or Push Ahead can make this even more absurd as you can effectively get +4 per Facility counter, making it a 12 atk or 12 thw for 4er. What's better is that there are multiple ways to achieve the +4, be it 2 basics into GAO or Push Ahead, or even simply playing a GAO/Push Ahead and readying from Magneto's Cape and playing another, the latter being a bit rarer since you will invariably mill past a few of them. Last thing on R&D, Magneto can choose if and when to cycle them back into his deck to keep the good stats going.
On the topic of GAO and Push Ahead, Magneto shares a similar strength to his not son where he can even defend against the villain, ready with Cape, and still be able to use either of them. Exhaustion means little to the master of magnetism.
But how can Magneto afford to get all 3 readies and use a GAO or Push Ahead? Uncanny X-Men. Even without resource generators in play, Magneto's 6 card hero hand size allows him to play a 2-cost ally and a GAO, or a 1-cost ally and a Push Ahead. He can flex even more, being able to play Beast into either of them with UXM out.
Some other tasty combos include:
- Pixie pulling either her usual strong X-Man ally OR the necessary resource to hit either GAO or Push Ahead
- Phoenix gives another avenue to get the hat trick value of R&D Facility if you are able to play another ally that turn
- Uncanny X-Men gives Monet +1hp, letting her insta defeat any minion with 4hp or less.
- Clarity of Purpose can ping the last of your Magnetic Bubble, giving you the choice of when it enters the discard, which lets you decide then to cycle it in without relying on Asteroid M
- Speaking of Clarity of Purpose, there is an extra one in this deck. I actually really like putting the second copy on an ally, as, again, you can choose when to shuffle that ally AND that upgrade back into your deck. The 2 costers and Colossus are my favorites to put it on. 2 uses of Clarity makes it neutral in cost and 1 resource is almost always better than 1 thw/atk or gives Piotr a purpose after he blocks with his tough. It also gives a use for the +1 hp from UXM
- Master of Magnetism is tailor made for GAO/Push Ahead
- Specialized Training goes ham with Magneto and shows up in all of my decks for him. It allows you to benefit from the card draw of whatever Training upgrade you pick and enjoy the +1 to your chosen stat again and again. It also gives a welcome +1 to GAO/Push Ahead making it a minimum 7 atk/thw without your armor.
This works wonderfully in both solo and multi, although Push Ahead laughably over thwarts in solo. You could easily reduce them down 1 or even 2 for solo play if you feel like you need to be at 40.
Thanks for checking this out!

Dec 09, 2024With all those X-men & Magnetic cards, do you think you can find a spot for Team-Building Exercise? |
Dec 09, 2024not gonna lie, finding out that Magneto doesn't have the magnetic trait was so so sad. i feel like he's a very magnetic x-men...as least very magnetizing. |

Oh heck yeah!! Go All Out with that many readies (and an almost always accessible one from his ability) is legit. I can’t wait to wreck shop with this
