Bishop vs. Expert Ronan the Accuser

Complete Age of Apocalypse Expert Campaign Playthrough

Why Justice?

Bishop's alter-ego ability is one of my favorites in the game. Temporally Displaced lets us grab any Temporal card from the discard pile to our hand when we flip from hero to alter-ego. Half of Bishop's identity-specific cards are Temporal, most importantly, Stored Energy. Every time Bishop flips to alter-ego, he can get a double resource card for free. To control threat and easily flip, I opt to play him in justice. The yellow aspect is known for its board control but can lack damage. Fortunately, Bishop has one of the highest burst damages in the game with Super-Charged. If you guys know me, I love an amazing alter-ego ability, lots of resources, and big burst damage. Bishop has all 3!

Easy Building

Setting up has never been so easy. Many heroes have identity-specific resource cards like Black Panther and his Vibranium or Captain Marvel and her Energy Absorption, but none of them can tutor their resource card straight to their hand with just their identity's ability. Bishop can use a double resource to play an expensive card, then flip down to alter-ego, tutor Stored Energy to the hand and use it to play another expensive card. With this direct access to resources, we can easily set up a powerful board by playing expensive supports like Avengers Mansion and The X-Jet.

Thwart Machine

Heroic Intuition is key for this deck because of our access to readies. Not only can Bishop ready up with his Concussive Blast, but this deck is loaded with 9 X-Men allies for Utopia to give us more readies (Nick Fury is the odd man out but I couldn't resist including him as one of the best resource sinks for Bishop). All of this readying allows Bishop to easily control threat.

The Power in All of Us

We gotta add resource cards for the resource king, and I went with The Power in All of Us for the synergy with our basic supports and basic X-Men allies.

Improvements

In my game against Apocalypse, I ran Legion and Superpower Training, but I took them out for Colossus and a 2nd copy of One Way or Another. I prefer Colossus as an ally for his reliable tough, while Legion has a wild factor of discarding the top of our deck and not knowing which effect will trigger. I also realized Superpower Training isn't good with Bishop because his identity-specific upgrades are either 0 cost or Temporal (so he can tutor them with his alter-ego ability). One Way or Another gives us more card draw to offset having a dud hand with all/no resources and Bishop can easily thwart the side scheme out.

Hope you enjoy this decklist!

I’m trying to understand Bishop’s cards and I’m seeing other people quote an RRG entry about Super-Charged: “If a maximum appears as part of an ability, it imposes a maximum number of times that the ability can be initiated from all copies (by title) of cards bearing that ability (including itself) during the designated time period)”. This deck and video show both Super-Charged on one attack, so how should I be play him this way? Going to start first game soon

Is honorary in there to slap on Nick for keeping ally limit increased (and not having to discard him so you can block with him if another ally is played)? Or is it there for multiplayer support?

@Webslinger3000 I believe Super-Charged stacks with itself because the card says it gets +2 for each charge counter on “here” so the max of 8 damage means for each card. Other people I’ve spoken to say the same thing but we might have to wait for an official ruling.

@ichiban_gweilo Honorary X-Men is just there for Bishop to be an X-Men in alter-ego so we can use the resource from X-Jet and ready from Utopia. It’s not the most key card but it gives us more versatility in alter-ego since we’re flipping a lot.

I’m glad to see Bishop not get too neglected! I love the deck design space he opens up!

@andyr I definitely made that mistake but no more! I’m loving how his playstyle isn’t as streamlined but flexible like what you’re saying.

Took down a little Klaw expert 1 with standard 3, was sweaty with 2 hp left at one point but utopia and the confuses in the deck saved me

Fun deck but no surprise I usually like the control playstile that u love too !

@Angelssen Nice!! Glad to hear the deck worked out for you. Yea I was initially turned off by Bishop because of the rng, but I really like his potential to control and build too. I believe this deck can take down Ronan too! Itching to try that matchup but I gotta finish the AoA campaign first.

@Web-Warrior Fanatic i did lot of expert in the past, i was a little more chill theses days, and it still miss something in the bishop kit for beeing that consistant i think unfortunately

I'm not sure what but is power is underwhelming cuz u can only really use it after a good energy conversion but that also the only good condition for using his armor that quite sucks (u mill too much ur deck if u didn't used a good conversion prior to that) with no passive, it should give us +1 def cuz there is little to no point of defending with bishop and his value of 1 ...

So bottom line the early game can be quite hard to setup on expert sometimes (true that klaw can be unforgiving if u are unlcky but the point still stand i feel)

@Angelssen Yea I agree that Bishop's hero ability and uniform isn't going to be consistent all the time, but I think his max potential is up there with the strongest heroes when combining the justice package with his alter-ego ability. I'm definitely going to be trying this against Ronan within the next week or so!

Is this your favorite build so far for Bishop? I’ve been playing Cable in Justice this weekend and Domino is next in a SHIELD Justice deck. I think I found my next Justice play right here… BISHOP STYLE

Apr 07, 2024 Web-Warrior Fanatic · 9393

@jerpanic Yes definitely! Bishop's alter-ego ability, Temporal Displaced is so powerful that he's one of the few heroes in the game that doesn't have an identity-specific support card with an alter-ego action. Having a card that I can't afford to play, then flipping over to grab a double resource feels super satisfying. I love the flexibility to flip over anytime I want thanks to the threat management in justice. Hope you enjoy this deck!

gasp this whole time, I’ve misread that alter ego response! I just thought it was shuffled into your deck…what?!?!…oh man, I gotta replay him tonight now!!

Apr 08, 2024 Web-Warrior Fanatic · 9393

@andyr Lol! I always misread stuff too. Bishop’s going to pop off when you’re putting that temporal card in your hand!

I played my first game with WWF’s deck. Bomb! My nemesis deck came into play and snagged my Stored Energy card twice, but it still couldn’t take me out of the game. Point is. This deck has it all… Thwart, defense and attack. Bishop’s Defense cards and absorption are clutch. Survivability in this deck is very good. His Rifle is so damn good!

@jerpanic Thanks man!! I always appreciate your feedback. Thanks for the kind words and I’m glad this decklist played well for you and gave you a positive experience with Bishop!

Great list! Honestly, this is the kind of content I needed to connect with Champions as a game at all. I learned Magic by using other people's decklists and getting the hang of how the interactions worked and why they were built like they were. Your decks do the same thing for me with Champions. Great content, keep it coming!

Apr 16, 2024 Web-Warrior Fanatic · 9393

@CubbyAC Thank you! That’s what these decks are intended for so it’s awesome hearing that. I never got into Magic the Gathering but it was really helpful looking at decklists for Yugioh :)

True solo vs Unus 0-3. Not even take off his initial tough status...

Apr 21, 2024 wojciech · 8

Won after sixth attmept...

Apr 21, 2024 Web-Warrior Fanatic · 9393

@wojciech Sorry to hear that :/

I’m not sure why the deck is underperforming for you, maybe there’s a missed ruling making the villain more difficult? I’ve had a 100% win rate with this deck even against Ronan and have had good feedback so far. Please check out my game against Unus here: youtu.be

Hope having that reference helps! I also would love to check out your game if you have it recorded by any chance to see what’s going on!

Man... I was having a lot of trouble beating S1E1 Mr. Sinister for the first time with 4 losses in a row. This deck handled him with ease. Mr. Sinister never got past the first 5A scheme.. only one superpower.

Apr 22, 2024 Web-Warrior Fanatic · 9393

@DoxaLogos I really appreciate you sharing! Sinister pops those main schemes like crazy so it’s awesome to hear this deck helped to mitigate that. Thanks for the feedback :)

@Webslinger3000 card says for this attack that is the defined period, as long as both Super-Charged are not used at the same time for the same attack you're good to go. In the Ronan video he attacks twice.
