Hi welcome to the twenty seventh in a series of decks I plan to build directly influenced by the amazing Get Up and Game! Perfect Match-Up series found here: https://youtu.be/1I2q3sT6FoA Please check out the channel and the video since I thought it was an amazing gift to the community and it inspired me to start playing Champions more regularly.
My goal with this series is to create a unique deck inspired by each challenge match-up in the video using all the suggested cards plus some of my own to create a deck that any player can use to check out the challenge. If you’re missing some cards from a deck please ask in the comments and I’ll do my best to find replacements from your collection so that you can have fun too! Hopefully I can build a deck that can beat the villain on both standard and expert. I’ll try to document any tweaks I made while playing the deck too.
Next up was my first ever game with Shadow Cat as she goes up against Klaw! Shadow Cat definitely has a learning curve. Getting the timing right on her different forms is so important to playing her right and it definitely took me a couple games to start feeling comfortable with her. Add to that, the fact that wow, I forgot how tough Klaw can be! The random nature of his boost cards combined with some truly nasty treacheries and enemies meant this one was pretty tough. I scrapped by in my Standard game as I got to know Shadow Cats kit. Then I lost my first Expert game before finally getting a handle on the hero and taking him down on Expert in two back to back games.
I found that the most important card for me to get on the table was Kitty's Room because the healing it provided allowed me to stay in the game longer and take control of the situation. This deck is definitely designed to get out some strong X-Men Allies like Wolverine and Psylocke and utilize Team Strike and Attack Training to really lay on the pain. I also took advantage of Phased and Confused as well as Professor X and Psylocke to confuse the villain often so I could flip down and regroup. Martial Prowess and Deft Focus along with the resource on Solid will get you playing plenty of attack events to swiftly take down the powerful minions that show up in this scenario. Jarnbjorn can also help you pump in extra damage if you end up with extra cards in hand.
All in all this was a tough match-up and I feel like I'm still just scratching the surface with Shadow Cat but it got me very excited to try her out in protection.
