Hi welcome to the ninth in a series of decks I plan to build directly influenced by the amazing Get Up and Game! Perfect Match-Up series found here: https://youtu.be/1I2q3sT6FoA Please check out the channel and the video since I thought it was an amazing gift to the community and it inspired me to start playing Champions more regularly.
My goal with this series is to create a unique deck inspired by each challenge match-up in the video using all the suggested cards plus some of my own to create a deck that any player can use to check out the challenge. If you’re missing some cards from a deck please ask in the comments and I’ll do my best to find replacements from your collection so that you can have fun too! Hopefully I can build a deck that can beat the villain on both standard and expert. I’ll try to document any tweaks I made while playing the deck too.
For this matchup we have Groot against Corvus and Proxima. Groot needs to flip down often in order to grow is counters so confusing the villain will be a large part of his strategy. Because the multi-villain scenarios tend to be longer I only played one game in Standard and one in Expert but both games were fairly easy victories for Groot.
The main strategy here is to build up Groot's growth counters so that you can use "I. AM. GROOT!" to basically one shot a villain. A couple Root Stomps can also accomplish this task. Just like Groot, you reallly want to be slow and steady taking your time to build up with supports and upgrades like Fertile Ground, Knowhere, Deft Focus, and Groots various Vine upgrades. To that end you can use "Think Fast!", Sonic Rifle, Professor X and Concussive Blow to confuse the villains to flip down and rebuild any counters you lose to attacks. You can also use One Way or Another to speed things up. You can use Clear the Area and your allies to keep down your threat too.
Once you're all set up, a couple of a powerful attacks from Groot and you will have successfully defended the tower!
This worked quite well. I made some minor tweaks but otherwise ran this deck as is. Being able to safely flip every turn felt crucial to the win and this deck definitely let's you do that. Thanks for putting it together Aoshi312!
