Spider Sense Counterfighter: Ghost Spider Protection

Go ahead. Take your best shot. Gwen’s already three moves ahead.

Gwen Stacy doesn’t need to hit the hardest or have the biggest health pool. She wins through timing, reflexes, and making villains regret every attack they throw her way.

Spider Sense Counterfighter is a Protection deck built around interrupts, responses, repeated readying, and counterattacks, with a supporting cast drawn from across the SpiderVerse.

Instead of simply absorbing damage, Gwen turns the villain’s turn into another opportunity to act.

The Game Plan

  1. Get your spider senses online.

Prioritize Web Bracelet, Unflappable, and Innate Reflexes during setup.

Web Bracelet provides card draw when you play qualifying interrupts or responses, while Gwen’s Smooth Moves ability allows her to ready after resolving one of those abilities.

The goal is to establish an engine that rewards you for reacting to the villain instead of waiting for your next turn.

  1. Make every defense count.

Counter Punch, Disarming Defense, Jump Flip, and Not Today! give Gwen options for responding to enemy attacks.

Armored Vest improves her defensive reliability, while Hard to Ignore converts successful defenses into ongoing threat removal.

With proper timing, Gwen can defend for another player, trigger her abilities, and still be ready when her own turn arrives.

  1. Fight back without waiting for your turn.

Return the Favor, Bait and Switch, Spider Tingle, and Thwip Thwip! expand Gwen’s reactive toolkit.

Some of these cards deliberately create opportunities for the villain to attack. That isn’t a drawback when your entire deck is designed to exploit enemy activations.

The trick is knowing when to invite an attack and when to keep your resources available for the encounter phase.

  1. Assemble the SpiderVerse.

This deck features a substantial collection of Spider themed allies, including:

  • Spider-Ham, SP//dr, Spider-Man, Scarlet Spider, Spider Man Noir, Ben Reilly, and Spider UK
  • Silk, Spider Byte, and other SpiderVerse support

These allies provide damage, thwarting, and additional flexibility while maintaining the deck’s thematic identity.

It’s a SpiderVerse team up that still functions independently rather than requiring specific heroes at the table.

  1. Keep moving.

What Doesn’t Kill Me provides healing and a ready effect, while Ghost Kick and Phantom Flip deliver Gwen’s signature damage and threat removal.

George Stacy allows you to store events for future turns, setting up particularly effective combinations during the villain phase.

The strongest turns often involve multiple actions spread across both player and villain phases.

Best Playstyle

Archetype: Reactive defense / counterattack engine Primary role: Team protection and defensive control Secondary role: Threat removal, counterattack damage, and ally utility Preferred player count: 2–3 players Complexity: Moderate–High Ideal teammates: Aggression damage dealers and setup heavy heroes

This is a timing focused deck, not a traditional tank.

Pay attention to interrupt and response windows, the timing of Gwen’s once per phase ready ability, and which events you hold for the villain phase.

In multiplayer, Gwen shines by defending for teammates, minimizing enemy damage, and turning defensive actions into additional value.

The deck rewards players who understand enemy activation timing and enjoy making decisions outside their own turn.

Final Swing

The villain attacks. Gwen dodges.

The villain attacks again. Gwen counters.

By the time the villain realizes what’s happening, the entire SpiderVerse has shown up.

Defend. React. Ready. Repeat.

Built for thematic, flexible, and engaging multiplayer gameplay.
