Spider-Man has always been good at surviving attacks. This deck asks a different question: what if getting attacked was also how Peter solved everything else?
Innate Reflexes starts the game by raising Spider-Man's already excellent DEF to 4. Armored Vest brings it to 5, and Symbiote Suit can eventually push Peter all the way to 6 DEF, while also providing the extra hit points and hand size needed to play aggressively with the encounter deck.
Taunt is extraordinary on Spider-Man. For 1 resource, the villain attacks, Taunt draws 3 cards, and Spider-Sense draws another. Peter effectively turns an attack he is exceptionally good at handling into 4 cards.
Bait and Switch uses the same principle for threat control. The villain attacks, Spider-Sense draws a card, and 4 threat disappears from the main scheme. Get Their Attention provides another source of threat removal whenever an enemy initiates an attack, allowing Spider-Man to protect the table while keeping schemes under control.
In Harm's Way turns Peter's DEF directly into offense and thwarting. Once fully upgraded, a single play can deal 6 damage and remove 6 threat. Meanwhile, Backflip, Webbed Up and Spider-Man's natural defenses make all those deliberately triggered attacks far less dangerous than they should be.
Ready for a Fight even changes how Peter uses alter-ego. Visit Aunt May, recover, and prepare the trap. When an enemy would scheme, Peter can immediately return to hero form and make it attack him instead — exactly where he wants to be.
Return the Favor adds another layer of calculated danger, digging through the encounter deck to deal 5 damage for no resources, while Enhanced Spider-Sense gives Peter a powerful answer to dangerous treacheries.
Black Cat and Spider-Byte provide support, but this is fundamentally Peter's fight. And when Symbiote Suit enters play, the extra encounter card stays. The additional power comes with additional danger — exactly as it should.
Spider-Man doesn't merely survive whatever the villain throws at him.
Every attack becomes another opportunity to save the day.
