This is my first Protection deck, I greatly appreciate any feedback.
My Thought process for this deck:
Level up Cap's defense as much as possible through upgrades and events cards. Consistently stun the villain, minions or both. Counter the villain's attacks with minor attacks and thwarting through upgrades and events. Deal massive damage during the villain stage through the use of event combos.
Play the Armored Vest or Defensive Conditioning and Cap's shield as early as possible. The vest cost less, but Defensive Conditioning provides +3 to your HP. At a minimum you will be setup with 4 def, +1 retaliate. The 4 defense is what setups a few different event combos. Which I will provide further down the description. I you can get Armored Vest, Def Conditioning and Cap's Shield out early... Oh Boy!
Get Super-Soldier Serum out as early as possible too, the added resource generation will come in handy when playing a hand size of 5. Nerve's of Steel is a nice to have, but the Serum is more important. Again: The goal is to set yourself up for event combos.
Hard to Ignore and Unflappable are nice to haves (especially having multiple Hard to Ignore's in play) and I would sacrifice these two upgrades for the ones mentioned above if/when that happens early in the game.
Event Combos that come to mind (in no particular order):
1. I Can Do This All Day + Expert Defense + Never Back Down Defend without exhausting, potentially use +9 defense against an attack, stun the attacking enemy (ideally the villain).
2. Expert Defense + Never Back Down + Stop Hitting Yourself +9 defense, stun the enemy, deal 9 damage (again, ideally to the villain)
3. I Can Do This All Day + Never Back Down + Stop Hitting Yourself This will require the use of resource engines. You do not exhaust which sets you up for an additional defense opportunity or you can basic attack/thwart during the hero phase. If you have Fearless determination in hand with this combo, throw it down, gain +1 thwart and add a card to your hand. If you have Hard to Ignore or Unflappable, pay for it and clear your hand.
Aside from the combos, Heroic strike offer attack events that will both deal damage and stun the enemy, Add Iron Fist into the mix and you are a stunning machine.
