Everyone Loves Bucky
We all know the story; Bucky Barnes, reformed mind-controlled assassin, settles into modern life and makes deep and meaningful friendships.
- Captain America has known Bucky forever, and if anyone can do the Predator "handshake", it's a pair of Super-Soldiers.
- Bucky loves working with Falcon, isn't trying to ingratiate himself with Sam's sister, and definitely isn't going to let a trademark infringement lawsuit get between them.
- Thor appreciates Bucky for his strength, integrity, and, most importantly, flowing, sleek, perfect hair. It's tough looking that good in the heat of battle; game knows game.
- White Tiger is here because there isn't a card to represent Alpine yet. Yet, FFG. That definitely isn't a threat... Print the damn cat!
- Wait, Moon Knight is here?! Who invited this creep? Huh? He brought a minion with him? Oh, alright, he can stay...
Look At Me. I Am the Captain Now
Bucky clearly has Steve and Sam's blessing, otherwise why would he have Captain America's Shield. They're both here, ask them. Besides, he's the Mission Leader so he decides who holds the shield.
No, but Really, What Is This Deck?
Bucky wants to defeat minions. He's good at it, and he's rewarded for it, and cards like Thor and Moon Knight (making a Cameo) are great at fetching them for him to beat up. More minions means more opportunity to draw from the Winter Mask, more threat removed from schemes, and more opportunity for value ready/confuse play from Silent Infiltration. Cap and Sam are mostly thematic choices, but also just well statted allies that bring a lot of value. Plus Cap allows us to play Super-Soldiers - a strong attack that Bucky's Cybernetic Arm can make even better. Between Cap attacking, Bucky attacking, and either of Super-Soldiers or Metal Punch, damage spike potential is very high.
I Mean, Who Throws a Shield, Honestly.
Captain America is almost purely a thematic choice, since there isn't a lot of support for defending in the deck, but returning it to hand to deal 4 damage to soften up a chunky minion so you can defeat them with an attack for a single Punch resource can be pretty awesome. It isn't an attack, so it doesn't trigger Lethal Protector, Winter Mask, or Silent Infiltration, but also it isn't an attack, so it doesn't trigger Retaliate and other such bad things that trigger off attacks.
This is my first foray into deckbuilding with Cameo, and while I don't have a great thematic reason for Moon Knight to be here (maybe he saw a lawyer and ran to Bucky for help?), I have had fun playing the deck.
