Theme: Buy Cards, Pay For Big Allies

I'm only about half-collection complete, so if you can think of a card that would be great in this deck but isn't here, you can probably assume I don't have it unless I have cards from the same pack. I've been getting into Champions again this year and learning some of the proper strategies that people find success with, like Ally Recursion. This deck takes advantage of Carol's biggest strength: her economy. I may be broke, but I can play a rich hero!

The key to this whole deck is getting Avengers Mansion and Alpha Flight Station into play so that every time you go to Alter-Ego mode (you'll want to do this at any opportunity), you get an optimized 9 card hand to play with: with Doubles and Triple energy resources and Carol's easily disposable Hero cards, you can get some truly wild hands. Nick Fury, Ironheart and Maria Hill get you more cards, and Beast is truly an efficient monster in this deck with his ability to get you Energy Absorption every time you play him, making him a 2 cost ally with a 2/2/3 stat line. You'll also want to get Team Training in play early to get some extra hit points and uses out of your heroes. If you're missing something here or want to try something different, swapping out for another Team Training for more consistency is not a bad plan.

Now for the fun stuff: when you have 9, 10 or more resources, why not pay for those allies you can never afford in other decks? Goliath, Black Panther (who can get a free Make the Call if you need back up or Lead from the Front/Avengers Assemble! if you're ready to push through), BETA RAY BILL? Oh man, I beat standard Magneto for the first time with this deck, and Bill whacking Acolytes and keeping the Main Scheme under control for three or four turns in a row is more than worth the cost. And don't underestimate Spider-Woman! Her ability to confuse Mags and Ronan once they have their Steadys/Stalwarts removed perfectly sets you up for those crazy Alter-Ego turns.

Key Win Conditions:

  • Avengers Assemble! with any combination Panther, Goliath, War Machine & Spider-Woman. Lead from the Front can also work in a pinch, and with more allies, or even stack if you get the right resources.
  • Energy Channel when you create an opening

Key Weaknesses:

  • If you don't have at least one extra draw engine early, your first deck pass can be a bit of a war of attrition.
  • You will deck out at least 2 or 3 times from card draw, so plan for those extra encounter cards.

Featuring...

Draw extra cards with: Commander, Alpha Flight Station, Avengers Mansion, Assess the Situation, Ironheart, Nick Fury, Maria Hill

Cheat cards out with: Helicarrier, Meditation, Energy Absorption, Nick Fury, Beast, Power in All of Us, Make the Call

Powerful, Expensive Avengers: Black Panther (Lead From The Front) Goliath, War Machine, Spider-Woman

Expensive Non Avenger: Beta Ray Bill

Boost Allies With: Team Training, Lead From The Front, Avengers Assemble

Pay for Rechannel & Energy Channel with: Cosmic Flight, Crisis Interdiction, Energy Absorption + Avengers Assemble, Morale Boost, Lead From the Front when short on targets

What a fun way to publish your first deck. Congrats!

Cap Marvel is a hero that I enjoy because she is strong in a fun but not boring way. Drawing a bunch of cards feels so good. Also it is funny when people freak out that you didn't include a card, when it was just because you didn't have it in your collection and you wanted to have a deck you could play. Love to see decks that are fun to the people that play them, because it doesn't have to be "perfectly optimized" for it to be fun to everyone else! Great deck!

Captain Marvel is my "main"! I've built more decks for her and played her more than any other hero. This one looks great! I think you could get away with adding a third Make the Call. She draws so many cards you won't even notice being at 41 (or you could just swap the Assess the Situation for #3 if you don't want to go to 41).

Thanks for the feedback folks! This has become a deck I love just because I enjoy playing Beta Ray Bill.

@boomguy Just thank you, genuinely.

@Cameson Yeah she's a great hero to play when you want the Deck you build to shine because she will be able to pay for it and her own events are ones you mostly just want to use as resources.

@SoloMarvelChampion Probably wouldn't hurt me to include an extra copy. I typically prefer 50 card decks (especially Leadership) and most of Captain Marvel cards aren't ones I want to actually play, so I might go that route. An extra Team Training and Make the Call makes a perfect 42 card deck, but I can easily see myself just pushing to 50.

@MutantMenace89 I usually run 48 - 50 cards in Captain Marvel (even when I say "I'm going to keep this one at 42" LOL)
