Most folks are building Silk around defeating side schemes. My usual playgroup has four people, though, so trying to build up Silk’s arsenal while defeating those scaled-up side schemes myself seemed like too daunting a tasks. Minions, on the other hand, mostly don’t scale, so Silk can take down the vast majority of them with just her attacks and little help from the Spiderverse allies.

Building Silk as a multiplayer minion-control deck, I encountered a conundrum:

  1. Web Warriors’ signature mechanic is ally-based, rewarding you for playing, sacrificing, bouncing, and replaying Web Warrior allies.

  2. Silk has no internal economy. None. Not on her card, not in her kit.

So here we have a heroine who wants to rely on the game’s costliest type of player cards but who starts out poor. We’re going to have to cheat.

Enter Squared Off.

This card from Magneto’s pack went pretty unnoticed, partly because it needed a hero that didn’t really exist yet: someone who wanted to pull minions from the encounter deck, yet had a strong reason to play Leadership over Aggression and needed to reduce ally costs badly.

My theory is that Silk fits this build.

Our compelling reason to play Leadership is Spider-Man 2099, the new Spider-Buddy who powers up our leave-play abilities without requiring us just to chump with all the Spideys. Since our allies will be returning to hand more often, Squared Off complements 2099 by making it cheaper to replay our allies at the cost of drawing a minion.

And what is the upside of drawing minions? Sticking them under Silk, of course! And, when we hit a particularly nasty minion, we can keep him or her tucked away for good—helpful since one of the downsides of Squared Off is that our team will cycle through the encounter deck more frequently.

This build is certainly in the experimental stage, so keep an eye out for updated versions and feel free to leave your experiences and ideas in the comments!
