Inspiration

Picture it. Nightcrawler grabs a pulse grenade from Star-Lord, BAMFs behind the villain. BAMFs into the sky. Attaches the pulse grenade, and then Teleport Drop. That is the inspiration for this deck. 'Nuff Said.

One of my favorite things about Nightcrawler is that he is totally self sufficient. He doesn't need anything to survive, he has good damage, and good thwart, and all of his cards are really cheap. That means you don't need chump blockers, you don't need to add anything to his deck to make him functional, and therefore you can build anything you want and he will thrive. Nightcrawler is encouraging me to change my style of play, and I am so happy about that.

Mechanics

My favorite card in Nightcrawler's kit is Kurt's Cutlasses. Getting +1 ATK, +1 DEF, and Retaliate 1 off of one 2 cost upgrade is uncanny. This upgrade also has the weapon trait, which is what this deck builds around. Mean Swing and Fusillade are cards that I have often felt disappointed by because many of the weapon upgrades have exhaust abilities. Kurt's doesn't though, so there is no opportunity cost of using them to exhaust Kurt's Cutlasses to get +3 ATK or deal 5 damage. Superpower Training and Lock and Load search Kurt's Cutlasses for the dual purpose of fetching an amazing upgrade, and having a target for Mean Swing and Fusillade. This also is the perfect opportunity for my favorite basic card.... you guessed it... Pulse Grenade. These are weapon traited with no exhaust ability, adding even more consistency to Mean Swing and Fusillade, plus, winning a game with a Pulse Grenade is one of my favorite things in Marvel Champions.

The other theme of this deck is upgrades. Bamf! is a 0 cost upgrade that Nightcrawler's kit revolves around. So you will have upgrades attached to enemies the entire game. To capitalize on that I added Take That!, Glob, and Shark-Girl. When you combine these cards with the weapon package, 20+ damage in one turn is no problem for Nightcrawler.

Chase Them Down and Professor X are in the deck to help with thwarting, and then to round it all out I included Deft Focus and Martial Prowess to help afford those big late game turns.

Gameplay Videos

I tested this deck against Sabertooth in true solo expert mode to make sure it could deal with a lot of pressure. I was able to completely take out Sabertooth II in only 2 turns before rescuing Robert Kelly. Then I rescued Robert Kelly when he had 5 damage on him. Then right before my final push I got exhausted by Exhaustion but was still able to do 17 damage in one turn to finish off Sabertooth with minimal setup and no basic attack. Another thing I love about this deck is that the entire gameplay was only 20 minutes long against a notoriously long scenario! I've really been enjoying this high tempo strategy with Nightcrawler.

I hope you try out this deck! Let me know how it goes either on here or on youtube. It's always great hearing from people who try a deck that I've built and it's my favorite thing about posting on this site.

this one looks interesting with the cutlass shenanigans. Going to try this as my first nightcrawler deck.

why use deft focus instead of x gene? genuinely curious...

@Frost the restrictions on x-gene have always bothered me. Often times it comes into hand while you are in hero instead of alter-ego and if things aren't allowing you to flip down then it's a dead card. And if you want to add in multiple copies to get it turn 1, then after you play 1, the other 2 are dead cards which I'm not a fan of. Deft focus you can play in hero which I really like. The advantage of x-gene is that you can use it on the villain phase and it can meet resource requirements. Kurt doesn't have resource requirements, so that advantage is null. The other advantage is that you can use it to play his defense event Tally Ho! whereas deft focus can't because it is an action not a resource. But Nightcrawler already solved that issue with his Prehensile Tail. Deft focus has an advantage over X-gene that I haven't heard anyone mention yet. The Prehensile Tail is super power traited so deft focus can actually pay for it, whereas x-gene can't because it is locked to events. Tbf I am biased against x-gene because I have never enjoyed the card, but I do think deft focus has some real benefits over x-gene. Primarily just that it is never a useless card in my hand whereas x-gene often is. Thanks for asking! I hope that helps.

I played 2 games of it last night, one againist Sandman and one againist Worldwake (whatever the sentinels one is). I think one issue that I was running into was a resource one. The cards in my hand didnt always match up with what resource generation I had. second issue was getting out the cutlass or another weapon. I had some bad RNG last night and all the weapons were near the bottom of the deck in the one game.

Looking at the cards at the moment, I may take out something to put in helicarrier to get more stable resource generation. Also Chase them down is too situational for my liking. I typically want to do something else that deals more aggression and let the players who have more thwarting decks do their thing.

One of the people i played with suggested toe to toe. Not sold on being attacked and wasting the bamf.

@morph147 Thanks for letting me know how it went. This deck was made for solo. I should probably start putting that in the writeups. So removing chase them down when you have a justice player is a really reasonable thing to do. That's really said that all 4 of the weapons and the side schemes were on the bottom :( What do you mean by the cards didn't match up to the resource generation? Like you couldn't afford to play Take That! and Fusillade in the same turn? Toe to toe is good when you're not fighting difficult villains or if it is a final push, but if you're playing against hard hitting villains it can be risky. Out of all the people to use it, I think nightcrawler is possibly the best choice. But I see what you're saying. I'm not usually looking to Ronan attacking me for instance lol but I wouldn't mind absorbing man.
