Magik Presses her advantage

IMO Magik's biggest advantage isn't playing the top card of her deck at -1 resource, it's knowing which card (and its resource icon) is on top of her deck. So this deck uses that knowledge to squeeze just a little more power out of an already powerful hero.

I haven't had a chance to test this deck yet, but soon I'll have an Expert video linked here.

Magik has some great tools for setting up your top card!

  • Her Alter-Ego Interrupt is limited to a spell, but all of the resources are covered across her spell package.
  • Scrying doesn't always get you what you want on top, but it's better than nothing.
  • Stepping Disc is my favorite card because you get a ready AND put a Magik card from discard to the top of your deck! Unless I'm planning on a specific combo, I like to put Colossus on top so that I can...
    • Play him again!
    • have a on top for various resource "kickers".
  • Limbo is the most versatile because you just swap a card in hand for the top card. This can make setting up the first combo below very easy!

Press the Advantage

The first thing I thought of - and the namesake of this deck - is Press the Advantage:

  • Get Press the Advantage to the top of your deck with Limbo, Scrying, or just luck
  • Play Exorcism from hand
  • Confuse the Villain because Press the Advantage has a icon
  • Play Press the Advantage for free and draw a card because the Villain was Confused.

Of course, ANY card with a or icon gets the confuse, but the real advantage is getting the two damage from Press for free AND drawing a card.

White Fox

Knowing White Fox is on top of your deck can give Magik a pretty big (as in free ally) advantage!

Legion, Goldballs, and Magic Attack all provide a benefit for discarding the top card of your deck, and you can plan around that ability since you can see the top card of your deck. White Fox is put into play when she's discarded this way, so...

.... and you ALSO get an ally out of it!

Since Magic Attack is a Spell, you can get it back from discard any time you're able to flip down to Alter-Ego. Limbo White Fox to the top while in Alter, then when you flip up put Magic Attack on top of your deck and play it for 0!

Notes:

  • White Fox is not an X-men ally, so just keep that in mind if you're planning to have 4 allies out with Utopia
  • I had Hulk in the deck for a while, but with so few icons he's much less reliable for this build.
  • I also started with Cosmo, but really wanted to limit the number of non-X-Men allies, so I cut him as well.
  • I didn't include Digging Deep in this deck because...
    • I didn't have room for it.
    • It does nothing for Legion
    • I don't have enough instances of "discard from the top of your deck" to make it viable (IMO).

Keep up the Pressure

I'm playing around with Keep Up the Pressure in several heroes right now! I like it in Magik because all three of the Attack events in this deck can give you a bigger advantage at just the right time. So you can plant this on the board and wait to thwart it off until the time is right for one of these events:

Number 41...

Moira MacTaggert would make a really strong 41st card in this deck! I didn't even realize until reading someone else's deck how powerful she is in Magik.

The Alter-Ego Interrupt puts a spell on top of your deck and then Moira MacTaggert draws you a card (THAT card) after you've flipped to hero. And that's super powerful in Magik who has the tools to set up the resource on top of her deck!

I really like you're write-ups. I don't need huge graphics and jokes, I just want to know why certain cards were selected. Thanks!

You could use Honorary X-Men on Cosmo to make him an X-men, then you don't have to worry losing your extra Utopia ally slot!

@GrootForPresident Thanks!

@THE_NickFury that's true, but I already had a hard time cutting down to 40 LOL. It's not as crucial to stick to 40 with Magik as it is with Iceman though, so I'll throw them in and see how it goes.
