The impetus for this deck is Upside the Head. Freeze! means Bobby likes to make basic attacks and Upside the Head likes that too. That means Justice.
Justice with a only a 1 basic thwart means we need help with threat. Chill Out! is fine, but Clear the Area helps support it with direct threat removal.
Freeze! stymies scheming as well as attacking. Alongside a couple confuses, this let's Bobby flip down for some big resource grabs without generating too much additional threat.
Utopia bridges the gap between Bobby's suboptimal thwart game and his love of basic attacks. Allies can help chip away at accumulated threat and trigger Utopia to ready Bobby up again for another Freeze! trigger.
I still worry that this deck is soft to big bursts of threat accumulating or scenarios that start with high threat. I'd love to find room for For Justice!
The allies are all fairly obvious choices, just generally the cheapest, most efficient X-Men. Bishop deserves a shout-out, though. This seems like a really good deck for him. Bobby's survivability is strong. Between all the allies, Frostbite, and a 2 defense, he's fine taking attacks while Bishop charges up his laser face.
Superpower Training is good because Cryokinetic Perception and Power Belt are game changers. Plus, Ice Slide and Frozen Solid keep it from being dead later in the game.
Bobby's kit is not cheap, so we need a little resource generation. The Power in All of Us is a great way to accelerate setup cards or allies. Deft Focus, X-Gene, Team-Building Exercise, and The X-Jet let you get a discount on some of the pricier cards.
Mulligan Priorities:
- Cryokinetic Perception, Power Belt, and Utopia are top priorities. They make the deck hum.
- Any resource generators such as Deft Focus, X-Gene, Team-Building Exercise , and The X-Jet.
Testing: I ran through a fairly simple gamut of Rhino, Klaw, and Ultron on Expert. I did lose to Klaw the first time within a couple turns because of some insanely aggressive draws, but every other game felt really good.
Both Klaw and Ultron died confused, stunned, and Frozen Solid. Which was pretty cool.
