Angry Mutant Daddy

NOTE: This is an update of a previous deck after realizing Havok takes no consequential damage from using his ATK to thwart a side scheme with The Direct Approach.

The burden of leadership can be a terrible thing. Often you have more bad days than good, and no one knows what bad days are like quite like Scott Summers. If it isn't the Phoenix force killing his girlfriend, or making him kill people, it's the world getting bored and deciding to go after mutants once again. The good news is X-Folks are a team, and if you come for one, you come for them all, and Cyclops leads the counter attack.

This deck leans into Allies boosting their attacks to huge degrees. Thanks to Danger Room we have efficient ways of putting on Attack Training, along with Boot Camp. Enraged pushes the damage even further, at the cost of our allies's longevity.

That takes care of our main objective: defeating the villain. However, there comes a time when side schemes will need to be addressed. Luckily, master tactician Scott Summers can retrieve any Tactic card from the deck, and The Direct Approach happens to be a tactic. That way, we can use our juiced up ATK to take care of some side schemes. And if you don't have side schemes, Game Time is a great tactic to get some extra juice out of your allies, and is fetchable with Tactical Brilliance.

The X-Jet is there to help us with cash money, and of course we have Cerebro to find an ally (hopefully his bro, Alex!) and can search the deck if Phoenix happens to be out.

Side note: Enraged won't deal extra consequential damage since you're using your ATK to thwart, not attack!

Even without the need to thwart side schemes, this crew is great at killing minions and taking it to the villain.

So let's suit up and meet the team! (Roster Updated!)

Angel - Cheap and effective Go home, Warren, you're drunk - Scott

Colossus - The tough gives us a free big attack, thwart, or mega block

Forge - Grabs our supports when we need them

Gentle - even without minions, The Direct Approach allows gentle to use his mega stat without taking extra damage

Havok - A huge thwart bot that takes no consequential damage while doing Direct Approach thwarts. Throw Enraged on him as well and he still takes no damage!

Phoenix - Honey, have you seen my Full Blast anywhere? Also, please tell Havok he's needed on the battlefield.

Polaris - Tough for Cyclops or anyone else that needs to do a big attack and not take consequential damage

Professor X - We all need a confuse every now and then, or a ready to hit like a truck/thwart like a mastermind I'll take it from here, Charlie - Scott

Rockslide - big ATK, big health, retaliate when needed! Go guard the mansion before it blows up again - Scott

Storm - She can thwart for a lot, off the main, and still move a big more to make sure the big numbers don't go to waste

Sunfire - Come for the attachment removal, stay for the boosted ATK!

Wolverine - Big hits with little heals.

Let's get out there and solve some problems, the direct way!

Havoc is a really good call here! Nice update!

Thank you!

I don't think Havoc works the way you think he does. He still takes Consequential Damage from Thwarting, and Direct Approach does call out that the Thwart basic action is used. The only difference is that he's looking at his Attack Stat to calculate the value of his Thwart, but that's the only thing that gets changed. His Response Ability, and the Consequential Damage he takes from using his Thwart action is unchanged.

@Oradow sorry for not responding sooner, I just noticed your comment. Havok absolutely works in the way I describe. Here's an excerpt from the collected rulings on hallofheroes.com, Ruling 37. I believe this is also covered in the RRG under replacement effects.

37 – I use Feral to thwart a side Scheme with “Assault”, using ATQ value. Which consequential damage (ATQ or THW) is dealt to the ally? Since is a Thwart (although ATQ value has been used), does the Response trigger?

When an ally makes a basic thwart against a scheme with Assault, they use their ATK stat and take the consequential damage beneath their ATK, but are still considered to have made a thwart. So, Feral will still resolve her Response ability when thwarting a scheme like Keep Them Busy"

To further clarify, I'm not interested in triggering Havok's ability, as I wrote above. I'm interested in taking zero consequential damage.
