This is a deck for what we like to call the X-Men Only fans. Not to be confused with Mystique's side hustle.
While not the strongest deck you can possibly build for Wolverine, this deck can be built with only the Core Set and X-Men content packs, namely (as the display on this is bad):
- Core Set
- Wolverine (for obvious reasons)
- Mutant Genesis
- Rogue (Most of the cards)
- Storm (Literally only Endurance, which is a nice safety net, but not crucial if you don't own or want Storm)
Key Card Choices
- Med Team delivers huge value for Wolverine, over and over again. It allows you to take a kicking, mostly from your own claws, and heal right back up.
- Bait and Switch helps you to deal with this deck's biggest weakness - Thwarting. If you have a Justice player handy, feel free to swap this out for a third copy of any of the other cards with 2 copies. We've intentionally built this deck a little less focused than we'd like to allow you to adapt it as needed.
- The damage reduction suite of being able to defend and ready with Indomitable, Judoka Skill, and Preemptive Strike are all here for one thing - to allow you to take as many attacks as possible without preventing all the damage with Tough or too much increased defence. This is to ensure you can get maximum card draw out of Berserker Frenzy. Ideally, you want to take 1 damage as often as possible to maximize draw without dying. If you luck into a minion who only has 1 ATK - keep it around! He's your best friend now.
- Armor, Polaris, and Professor X are here for when that plan gets you into hot water and you absolutely have to defend, or when you want to help your friends if you're not solo. Keep the ladies around as long as possible so that you have them for emergencies, and to thin down your deck. This isn't one of those decks where you throw an ally under the bus every turn, though obviously you'll need to do that with Professor X, but his threat more than makes up for it. A turn you don't take damage is a turn you heal 2 and draw 1 less card.
All this is in aid of playing Wolverine's biggest strength - his ridiculous attacks. Berserker Barrage, Lunging Strike, and Slice and Dice are all great cards that'll let you tear up the villain, and without having to worry about your health as much, you can really start to unleash Wolverine's Claws.
