This build is designed to be used in a team game with another player running a Hulk deck. Don’t stop reading just yet. One of the most broken combinations for Rogue’s Superpower Adaptation has got to be with the Hulk Smash card. For those of you unfamiliar, it is a 3 cost Hulk event card that says when you make a basic attack, you get +10 ATK. Also, you get Overkill if you paid the cost using only physical resources. Since the text says, “you”, the card works for Rogue. If Rogue places her Touched card on Hulk, she can grab Hulk Smash out of his discard pile. Then the fun begins. Deft Focus and X-Gene reduce the cost down to 1 additional resource needed to play Hulk Smash. Deft Focus works because the card is a Superpower, and X-Gene works for all identity-specific cards, not just Rogue’s. Mutant Education lets Rogue shuffle her Superpower Adaptation cards back into her deck, where she can grab Hulk Smash almost at-will. Use Professor X and Psylocke to confuse the villain when Rogue switches to her alter-ego to play Mutant Education. She can also touch either one of these allies to gain the Psionic keyword, so that she can play Psychic Assault for the confuse effect. Hulk Smash requires a basic attack, so stun can be a problem. Use Utopia and Energy Transfer to ready Rogue and shrug the stun off. In a two-player game, Hulk needs a Justice build to stay on top of threat, but he is not great at it. Rogue is versatile enough with Goin’ Rogue and Into the Fray that she can pitch in when needed. In a 3 or 4 player game where a better hero is on Justice-duty, Rogue can trade out Into the Fray for better cards like Moment of Triumph. This deck is a lot of fun to play and repeatedly beating down villains with Hulk Smash is a lot of laughs. PS - I hope there is eventually a gamma expansion pack or some equivalent that can give the Hulk deck a boost, because it still feels underpowered compared to most other heroes.

Sep 24, 2023Very cool strategy!!! Can’t wait to try this. In my experience Hulk doesn’t need Justice to stay on top of threat anymore because the Aggression pool has a lot of options now that can handle it—but to each his own, right? I personally like to use Machine Man and Lockjaw for thwarting as the icing on the cake. Then I abuse Toe to Toe and Counterattack in conjunction with Hulk’s high health to whittle the boss down quickly. With health boosting cards like the Symbiont Suite(+10 health!) and Immovable Object(+4 health), you rarely need to flip. You just rush down the boss. The Meditation card helps with getting Avenger’s Mansion or the Symbiont suite on the board ASAP to mitigate Hulk’s hand-size. Again, the Hulk’s greatest asset is his high health and of course, Hulk Smash. The icing on the cake for me is getting Blade, Tigra and Bug out on the board to mop up any minions—oh and The Sentry for good measure. Lol. |
I’m hoping I’m wrong here, cause your idea sounds fun as hell, but I think that once you use Hulk Smash, it’ll go back to Hulk’s discard pile instead of Rogue’s. Thus, Mutant Education wouldn’t work.
